HOW BLUE THE SKY IS
Challenging what we are used to seeing, Juejun Chen’s short film links documentary elements to experimental forms. Lead by a voiceover narration, the director confronts the viewer by looking back into a past marked by armed force and considering its consequences for the present. Chen builds a bridge between the German city of Kassel and Chongqing in China based on memory, with a warning and wake-up call becoming attached to its pillars at the same time: what connects the two places won’t be spared by our future either. How blue the sky is progressively escalates into an audiovisual poem full of dread: “As long as these weapon factories are still there, we will never have peace.”
